Benefits for Seriously Injured Workers
Your support team
Each seriously injured/severely impaired worker has a support team from our Serious Injury Program. Your support team meets together to learn about your case and find the best solution for you. Your team will have:
a Claims Adjudicator
an Occupational Therapist; and
a Nurse Case Manager
Who are severely impaired workers?
We consider impairment to be severe if the degree of impairment
is permanent and you receive a 60% or more non-economic loss (NEL) benefit in one or more files;
is permanent and is recognized, in one or more claims, by permanent disability (PD) benefits totaling 100%; or
is, in the opinion of a WSIB health care professional, likely permanent, and at a 60% or more NEL or a 100% PD benefit.

New price list for wheelchair/scooter purchases
Effective
August 27, 2007,
we are using a new price list when we review approved purchases of wheelchairs and scooters on behalf of workers. The
price list

is based on familiar market practices.
Prior to this price list, we obtained quotes from three different suppliers for an approved wheelchair or scooter purchase. We will now review all billings of approved products to ensure the amount complies with the new list.
We expect to realize cost savings due to this new price list model and workers will continue to benefit from an extensive list of suppliers of wheelchairs and scooters.
Elevating and lifting device update
Effective immediately,
Shoppers HomeHealthCare
will be handling any requests for the WSIB for the installation, service, and preventive maintenance of approved elevating and lifting devices on behalf of injured workers.
Shoppers HomeHealthCare replaces the WSIB’s previous suppliers, Cambridge Elevating, and Ottawa Valley Stair Lift. Services provided under this new agreement include the preventive maintenance and repair of approved lifting devices such as elevators, chair lifts, incline platform lifts, and porch lifts.
Between now and October 1, 2007
, a representative from Shoppers HomeHealthCare will be
contacting injured workers
who have elevating or lifting devices to ensure they receive preventive maintenance on an ongoing basis.
All injured workers who have an elevating or lifting device can contact Shoppers HomeHealthCare at their toll-free number regarding any concerns, or for further information on maintenance schedules.
Specific claims issues should continue to be directed to the adjudicator or nurse case manager assigned to the claim. If you do not know who is assigned to the claim, contact the WSIB’s general inquiry line.
