CPP Appeals

Supporting Information for CPP Appeals

If you are appealing to a Review Tribunal after being denied Canada Pension Plan (CPP) benefits by HRSDC, you will need to explain why you think you qualify for benefits and you will need to show proof.

To have the best chance to succeed in your appeal, you need to understand the reasons why HRSDC decided that you should not receive benefits. These reasons are explained in the HRSDC Explanation of Decision Under Appeal. Then you can provide additional information to support your case.

For an appeal involving contributory requirements, this may include papers like:

  • T4 or T1 slips, or statements from your employer (statements of contributory salary and wages) indicating valid earnings which do not appear on your Detailed Record of Earnings in your Hearing File.

For an appeal involving a disability pension, this may include:

  • Past medical records if you need to prove that you were disabled at the time you last met the minimum contributory requirements (see Minimum Qualifying Period MQP).
  • Medical reports or test results that are not in your Hearing File and which would support your case, such as:
    • Copies of x-rays or hospitalization records,
    • Workers Compensation Board (WCB) assessments or functional assessment evaluations,
    • CAT scans or MRI reports,
    • List of medications and treatments received.
